BACHIR ABOU ZEID

Filmmaker & Journalist

In 2018, I founded Beirut Film Institute, a Beirut based independent production institution that produces short and feature length narratives, documentaries, and commercials, as well as provides educational programmes for students looking for practical alternatives to academic routes.
Following the 17 October Uprising in Lebanon, I co-founded  “17 Teshreen” monthly magazine, where I contributed as the Editor-in-Chief.
I have an MA Degree in Filmmaking from MetFilm School and the University of West London, and a BA in Translation & Interpretation. My films have gone to festivals and were internationally acclaimed. KALASH, my first short film won at and participated in more than 10 international film festivals, and was a semifinalist at the Students Academy Awards. In November 2020, for my feature film “Mafkoud”, I won the Kamal Mallakh award for Best directorial debut at the 36th Alexandria Mediterranean FF.
I Have worked on both documentaries and narratives, my experience in film & TV includes reporting, producing, directing, & writing. My experience also includes film curriculum design and tutoring. I've taught undergraduate courses in directing, producing, film language and film aesthetics. I currently hold the position of the leader of LOYAC Film Camp at LOYAC Lebanon.
